Transforming the Moody Family Children’s Museum

Empowering Children to Reimagine the Future

The Moody Family Children’s Museum is one of the most beloved and visited spaces at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. After 12 years, advancements in understanding how children learn and solve problems necessitate a new design. We are undertaking a comprehensive modernization of the Children’s Museum to ensure that our resources and experiences are even more accessible and impactful for families.

The new hall will expand from 6,250 to nearly 11,000 square feet and include an expanded Toddler Area, a Makery where our youngest visitors will tinker and engineer, an immersive Imaginarium experience, and a larger Outdoor Area with climbing and water features. Each space will foster creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking in children. The inviting and larger-than-life design is rooted in scientific principles and will empower children to reimagine the future.

The new Children’s Museum will nurture imaginations, empowering young children to be brave and daring. It will also encourage them to design and explore as they imagine the future.

The Moody Family Children’s Museum will look radically different by mid-2025, and the dynamic environment and diverse interactives will be a space of wonder where anything goes, and children can feel free to chart their own course. The expansion bolsters the Museum’s position as the preeminent children’s museum of the region, extending programming to serve children up to age 7, offering an enriching experience from toddlers to early elementary students that will:

  • Stimulate imaginations
  • Welcome bilingual learners
  • Foster creativity
  • Engage curiosity
  • Spark wonderment
  • Encourage exploration and discovery
  • Support learning through play
