DALLAS (November 9, 2021) – As the holiday season quickly approaches, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science will offer special holiday hours during the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. Guests of all ages will find plenty of awe-inspiring moments on their visit – from the interactive Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks exhibition presented by Highland Capital Philanthropies to a stunning collection of nature-inspired jewelry. Plus, the gift shop features a curated variety of fun and quirky finds.

DALLAS (Sept. 21, 2021) – The works of internationally renowned jewelry designer Paula Crevoshay have captivated hearts for decades, from jewelry connoisseurs to celebrities and amateur gem buffs. The Perot Museum of Nature and Science will showcase a curated collection of Crevoshay’s stunning nature-inspired creations when The Shape of Matter – Through An Artist’s Eye opens Oct. 21. The special exhibit runs through April 20, 2022, and is included with general admission.

DALLAS (Sept. 14, 2021) – The Perot Museum of Nature and Science’s newest exhibition –Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks – will feature 20 iconic skyscrapers from across the globe constructed over 2,000 hours with more than half a million LEGO® bricks. From the world’s tallest building to the Empire State Building, the architectural wonders are constructed by Ryan McNaught, one of only 21 LEGO certified professionals in the world. All ages can get creative as they build upon a growing LEGO installation using thousands of the popular colored bricks. Presented locally by Highland Capital Philanthropies, Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks makes its Texas debut Friday, Sept. 24, and runs through April 24, 2022.

DALLAS (Aug 3, 2021) – Illustrations depicting the dinosaur era – whether in books or movies – are often accompanied by lush greenery. And during the Cretaceous period, the trees commonly dominating a wide range of Earth’s terrestrial environments were conifers – similar to the pines, spruces cypresses and cedars that populate the earth today. These conifers played a key role in ecosystems, providing nourishment, nutrients, and habitat for a range of prehistoric creatures.

DALLAS (July 20, 2021) – Summer learning loss has been prevalent for decades, but this year the problem is bigger, considering the tumultuous year young people faced with hybrid and remote learning. Science education – a challenging subject to teach, especially remotely – may have suffered the most. 

To help counter the situation, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science has teamed up with nonprofit Dallas Afterschool to provide 15,000 hands-on Wonder Kits® through the Museum’s TECH Truck program which is dedicated to creating equitable access to high-quality educational resources. Thanks to a generous gift from ExxonMobil, the STEM-based Wonder Kits® allow children the opportunity to participate in highly engaging science activities and experiments. DALLAS (June 9, 2021) – Thanks to a generous gift from Lyda Hill Philanthropies, Texas Women’s Foundation awarded $638,844 to 29 Dallas/Fort Worth nonprofit organizations* to increase usage of the IF/THEN^® Collection. The IF/THEN^® Collection is the world’s largest free resource of authentic and relatable photos, videos and biographies celebrating diverse, contemporary women in STEM careers and roles. All nonprofits and schools can use the IF/THEN^® Collection for free for non-commercial purposes to highlight and elevate these STEM role models in order to inspire young girls to pursue STEM careers.

DALLAS (May 20, 2021) – At a time when education systems are facing the challenges of the pandemic – and field trips are on hold – the Perot Museum of Nature and Science is launching an engaging 10-part, STEM-focused virtual series called The Whynauts. 

Designed to make science relevant, exciting and accessible, the academically aligned episodes feature charismatic scientists along with diverse youth actors ages 10-15. They will lead students on a fun, knowledge-packed journey of science exploration through the Perot Museum exhibit halls and some of North Texas’ best-known landmarks, including the Dallas Zoo and Trinity River. The digitally enhanced, bilingual adventures – with dialogue in English and Spanish – are available at perotmuseum.org/whynauts. Episodes 1 and 2 are launching today, and the remaining eight will roll out during the summer. The 10 episodes and supporting educational materials are complimentary through the 2021-2022 school year.

DALLAS (February 11, 2021) – After an exhaustive search, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science has named veteran education leader Jessica Chavez as its Chief Learning Officer. Chavez joins the Perot Museum after working for the Arizona Science Center in Phoenix since 2015, where she most recently served as Vice President of Innovative Learning Strategies. She assumed her duties remotely in December and, following her relocation, was officially welcomed to the Perot Museum Feb. 1.

DALLAS (January 26, 2021) – With a combined weight of more than 110 pounds, two exquisite and rare gold pieces originally unearthed in Australia are now on display at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. The largest piece – dubbed the Dragon’s Lair – tips the scales at 63 pounds making it one of the largest and most remarkable specimens to come out of the richest gold finds in Australia. This is the first time Dragon’s Lair has been on view at any museum. Its smaller lustrous companion – known as the Ausrox Nugget – weighs in at a whopping 51.29 pounds and is about the size of a basketball.

DALLAS (January 14, 2021) – Calling it a “bold and inspiring tribute to African American leaders who made momentous contributions to science,” the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, in partnership with the African American Museum, Dallas, today announced that local architect and emerging artist Daniel M. Gunn is the winner of the Staircase Project design competition. In addition to a $5,000 prize, Gunn’s larger-than-life image, titled “GIANT STEPS – Celebrating Extraordinary Achievements of African-American Leaders in STEM,” has been installed on the Perot Museum’s multi-story, outdoor staircase facing Field Street. The Staircase Project is presented by Kroger.
